Kent State gives you the courses, a concentration coordinator who helps with your first placement the semester before it starts, practicum faculty who approve each preceptor, and a College of Nursing that arranges the affiliation agreement with each agency. The search itself sits with you: program pages call finding a preceptor primarily the student's responsibility.

Kent State practicum runs by the semester: hours start no earlier than the first day of the term without your coordinator's approval, end by its last day, and go into Typhon within 15 days. Before you start

Does Kent State find preceptors for graduate nursing students?

For graduate students, no single office does it for you. Kent State's MSN handbook makes identifying a qualified preceptor the student's responsibility, with your concentration coordinator helping before your first practicum and course faculty helping after that. BSN clinicals are different: the college schedules those.

Can I do my Kent State practicum anywhere?

Hours count only at agencies with a current College of Nursing affiliation agreement, and online students train in the state where they live and hold an unrestricted RN license. Kent State's approved-states page lists which states each online program accepts, so check it before you plan a site.

When should I start looking for a preceptor?

Start about two semesters ahead of your first practicum course. The mandatory first-practicum orientation comes four to six months before that course, your coordinator helps during the semester right before it, and you must be compliant before you can register.

How many practicum hours will I need?

It depends on your concentration. Kent State's catalog sets a range of 300 to 600 clinical hours for the MSN, and the practicum courses add up to 525 for AGPCNP, 600 for AGACNP, PMHNP and WHNP, and 675 for FNP. Your syllabus and coordinator confirm your figure.

Who approves the preceptor you find for me?

Your practicum faculty and concentration coordinator give the final approval, and the College of Nursing arranges any affiliation agreement with the agency. We prepare the preceptor's credentials, license and site details so that review moves quickly.
